Reasons for choosing this theme for my work.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world around me I have chosen the broad theme of ‘spirit in nature’. These are words I have used to describe a search for a feeling of ‘nature, or captured moments in time of natural ‘authenticity’. This quest for self definition and understanding is what I strive to achieve and comes through not only in my body of work and mentioned work ethic but also affects my approach to my research by using the opportunity of writing I draw a greater understanding of my own work.

Aspects of nature used in my work:

When I look at nature as a source of inspiration I not only look at the shapes and forms that can be found specifically in the botanical world, but I look at moments in time, stages of growth, and exploring issues behind the forms that I make and draw from such as ‘conceal and reveal’, ‘dynamic line and visual movement’ and ‘fragility and contrast’.

It is in the teasing out of my body of work that i created in my b.tech that I am able to identify these 3 themes and so as I continue to create, observe and exhibit i hope to identify other themes that reaccure, bringing me a greater understanding to my own connections with nature and this thing that i call "spirit of nature".
